The Kassel Art Association was founded in 1835 as an independent forum for the promotion and communication of contemporary art. It was one of the first of its kind in Germany and has a long tradition of civic engagement.
Today, with its 500 square metre exhibition space on the ground floor of the Museum Fridericianum in the city centre of Kassel, the Art Association offers artists a unique field for experimentation.
The annual programme of up to four exhibitions is developed and realised on a voluntary basis by a curatorial board. The focus is on solo and group exhibitions by national and international artists.
In addition, there are numerous collaborative projects such as the annual media art exhibition Monitoring in cooperation with the Kasseler DokFest, the awarding of the Arnold Bode Prize of the City of Kassel and the Kassel Art Prize of the Dr. Wolfgang Zippel Foundation, theatre projects, performances and concerts.

For many exhibitions, editions are produced exclusively for the Kasseler Kunstverein. Members of the Kasseler Kunstverein can purchase these editions at a reduced price. Non-members may also obtain the editions at the reduced price by submitting a membership application at the same time.
